Alfie's Lake

Owned by our family since 2015, Alfie’s Lake has developed over the years from gravel pits used to surface the highway to a carp fishing haven. Fishing and fishery management have been a lifelong passion of the owners; with a major focus on the environment, nature and welfare of the fish we stock.

We were handed the former gravel pit-turned-fishery in a sorry state. Many banks were overgrown and the growth of the fish had been compromised from inferior nutrition. With many hands to the deck, we brought the lake back to its former glory; adding stages, seating areas and an off grid way to stop directly on the lake in the form of the mobile home you can enjoy on the far bank.

The initial netting yielded some surprises; some great, some not so great. The lake was sporting some old warrior carp and  overrun with monster catfish, with nuisance species which have been removed at each netting. However, it gave us a good basis to restock our lake with beautiful carp from small stockies grown on the lake of a mutual friend to the prize winning 50s our anglers yearn for each visit.

Practical information and rules

Alfie’s Lake is 3 acres. We are situated 45 minutes from Rennes (southern Brittany) . We are equipped with a day hut on our three peg island, an off grid 6 berth caravan and bait for sale to save you the hassle.

Our fish is stock mainly 25-40lb with 30% in the 50s and 60s; totalling around 160 fish. We only allow three anglers at a time and you can be assured that it is always lake exclusive.

Supermarkets are 10 minutes away. If ordered the night before, we can bring you fresh bread and pastries in the morning.

Below, you'll find our practical information guides and rules to help you prepare for your visit.

The accomodation

The experience at Alfie’s Lake goes well beyond the fishing. If you fancy really switching off and getting close to nature, we’ve got a couple of unique spots to stay that mix a bit of comfort with the quiet charm of the outdoors.

Out on the island, right in the middle of the lake, you’ll find our cosy little day hut. It’s a proper hideaway—perfect for anglers or anyone who just wants to enjoy the peace and take in the views between casts.

If you're planning to stick around a bit longer, there’s our off-grid caravan that sleeps six. Tucked away in a quiet corner, it runs completely on natural power and makes a great base for families or small groups after a simple, no-fuss escape—without giving up the essentials.

Whether you're staying for a couple of days or making a week of it, it’s a lovely way to enjoy the lake at its most peaceful.

The fish

It’s not just the views that make Alfie’s Lake special—the fishing’s something else too. With around 160 carp in the lake, most weighing between 25 and 40lb, there’s plenty to go at, whatever your experience level.

What really makes the place stand out, though, is the number of big fish. Over a third of the stock go over 50lb, and a fair few push well into the 60s.

Whether you’re after a new PB or just enjoying the buzz of proper fishing in a beautiful spot, Alfie’s Lake has a way of serving up those moments you won’t forget in a hurry.

Lake development

When we first got here, the lake was in a wild state. We took the time and a lot of effort to make into what it currently is. Nevertheless we wanted to share some pictures of how the lake and the land was when we just arrived here.

The domain

Alfie’s Lake isn’t just a place to fish—it’s a peaceful spot where nature takes centre stage. The water sparkles in the sunlight, surrounded by greenery that makes it feel like a proper countryside escape. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just fancy giving it a go, the calm beauty of the lake makes it all the more enjoyable. It’s the kind of place where you can take a breather, cast a line, and just soak up the quiet.

We like our customers do the talking...

All in all such a great 5 days. It was our first time fishing in France and certainly won’t be our last. Already planning the next one 😁 would definitely recommend Alfie’s Lake to anglers of all abilities looking for a peaceful break!

My stay at La Billas left such an impression on me: the beautiful scenery, the tranquility, and the beautiful water. The fish jumping out of the water to their heart's content. Man, what a rush! Tom was waiting for us at the water's edge. What a fantastic welcome with an explanation of the water, and how the caravan works. What a luxury! Tom and Abby make your stay a top-notch experience. After fishing beautifully, like the Sleeper and Turbo, we caught some nice commons en mirrors . Man, what a beautiful water! Tom and Abby definitely make something beautiful. I'm already looking forward to my next trip there. I definitely recommend going there and enjoying the peace and quiet, the carp, and the company. Thx tom and abby

We will be back!

Not long got home, had a lovely week at Alfie's Lake - La Bilias, tough fishing at times but that’s just how it can go sometimes.

Perfect drive and survive for us.

Beautiful lake and surroundings and we had some nice afternoons out in local bars and restaurants.

Thank you Tom Dekkers for treating us like adults and leaving us to it but also knowing you was there if we needed it.

Was nice having a Belgian beer with you on a couple of evenings.

Please feel free to re post this on Trusted Lakes France as I know they like a report.

All the best in the future to you and Abbey.

So that's it, we now only have one rod each left in the lake and we will be packing them away just after dark, the bites tend to come all through the night but more predominantly from 3 am and we need to leave here at 7 am to start our 7 hour drive home.

This week at Alfie's Lake - La Bilias has been absolutely brilliant and made so much better by the hospitality of the owners Tom and Abbey who have been brilliant.

So we have had 17 carp between us and one bream each that could well have been the same one.

The biggest carp for me has been..

Comman Carp 34.13 lb

Mirror Carp 37.13 lb

Grasscarp 52.15 lb

And for Diane..

Comman Carp 36.9 lb

Mirror Carp 34.4 lb

Grasscarp 22.10 lb

Thank you Tom, we will see you again, Au revoir.
